    Sama Vritti

    A mindful breathing technique that focuses on full and even inhales and exhales. Are you experiencing difficulty focusing your energy on anything but your thoughts, fears, limitations and/or expectations? Sama Vritti will help you breath with comfort and ease. Maintaining a balanced breath between your inhalation and your exhalation is one technique that can be taken into active labour, as to help lengthen the shortened breath, avoid hyperventilation and excess fatigue. Other benefits of Sama Vritti: Enhances relaxation, stimulates depression fighting endorphins, increases lung capacity, reduces stress and calms your nervous system.

    Bhramari Breath

    In Sanskrit, “Bhramara” refers to a large black bumble-bee. For this technique, the exhalations sound like a soft humming, like that of a bumble-bee. Practicing this technique when pregnant helps to calm and soothe your nervous system and induces sleep, therefore it’s great if dealing with insomnia. This breath work is invaluable to use in your labour and delivery as it helps to calm your nervous system and allow you to go inwards. Other benefits are the exercises of using your voice.

    Nadi Sodhana Breath

    Nadi Sodhana in Sanskrit means "purification of the Nadis." The Nadis are energy channels through which life force energy, flows to energetic hubs in the body, called “chakras.” Nadi Sodahana breath balances both hemispheres of your brain, creating a sense of harmony and well-being, while balancing mind and emotion. This breathing technique helps relieve headaches, cleanses the nasal passages, supplies the blood with rich, oxygenated blood, calms and purifies the nerves. It’s a great breathing technique for mothers who have a cold or experience plugged nasal passages due to the swelling of sinus tissue during pregnancy.

    Sitali Breath

    Known for its cooling properties. Sitali breath is great for soothing heated emotions, such as anger and frustration. It cools the body temperature, aids in digestion, activates the liver and spleen, relives thirst and increases alertness. If you are feeling too warm in your body this breath is ideal for cooling you down. It clears your mind and calms your emotional spirit.
